MensXP: Top Five Biggest Female Bodybuilders of All Time

The biggest women

MensXP is an Indian male lifestyle website. The topics range from grooming, health, sports, and fashion. Lifestyle websites and publications tend to be not the most amusing reading material . However, at times an article does catch your eye. When it comes to the discussion of sports, women are not part of it. It appears times have changed and some men are becoming interested in the modern day sportswoman. Anuj Tyagi explains ” while female bodybuilding is often overshadowed by its male counterpart, the women are killing it anyway.” What is refreshing to see is that a men’s lifestyle website is praising female athleticism. The male focused magazines and websites at times have subtle anti-woman streak. Not this time, because Tyagi is a fan. The sport at one time was a macho and testosterone fueled place, but women have added their feminine representation to it. The women present physiques that have not been seen in any point in human history. The muscular female physique has become more visible compared to five decades ago. The most notable feature about the woman bodybuilder is their size. Anuj Tyagi complied his list of five biggest female bodybuilders of all time. When making top selection lists, they do tend to forget other athletes. The list should have been top ten, because there are women who are bigger than the one’s listed.

Lenda Murray and Iris Kyle : The Two Greatest Ms. Olympia Champions

Lenda Murray and Iris Kyle are some of the best bodybuilders to grace the stage. Lenda won eight and Iris won ten Ms. Olympia contests. Iris Kyle would based of wins alone be the better bodybuilder. However, Lenda remains quite formidable. She was able to beat Iris in 2002 and 2003. Iris dethroned Lenda in 2004. When it comes to size Iris is 160 lbs. Lenda competed at 150 lbs. That means Iris Kyle had 10 lbs of muscle more than Lenda Murray. Iris has 17 inches biceps and a chest of 34 inches. Lenda Murray had 16 inch biceps and a 39 inch chest. Lenda had a bigger chest by just five inches. Iris has an edge on biceps by just an inch. When it comes to who is bigger Iris wins. Comparing off season weight the advantage is maintained. Lenda was 164 lbs compared to Iris’ 180 lbs weight. The physiques that Lenda and Iris presented are the standard on the female bodybuilding stages of today. These two athletes did have a feud, which has not been resolved. Lenda claimed Iris Kyle was too extreme with her physique. Iris Kyle also asserted that Lenda Murray as a promoter was preventing her from competing at the Wings of Strength in 2016. Lenda Murray was jealous of Iris Kyle’s ten win record. This was ludicrous, because they are both great bodybuilders.

Kim Chisevsky Versus Yaxeni Oriquen

Other Ms. Olympia champions should also be mentioned. Kim Chisevky was an impressive Ms. Olympia. Her contest weight was 165 lbs. Her biceps were 16.5 inches and chest was an impressive 46 inches. Her quadriceps were 28 inches. She dominated the Ms. Olympia from 1996 to 1999. Kim not only competed in bodybuilding, but also went to the fitness and figure category between 2002 to 2004. Kim was bigger than both Iris and Lenda. Yaxeni size is closer to Kim. Her biceps are 17 inches. Her chest is 46 inches. Yaxeni competed at a total 175 lbs. If it came down to physical contest Yaxeni might be victorious. Both are the same height standing at 5 ft 8 in. This would mean Yaxeni would have the weight advantage. Taking off season weight Yaxeni is 185 lbs and Kim weighed 180 lbs. Tug of war and arm wrestling between them would be an epic match.

The Strength of Nataliya Kuznetsova

Nataliya Kuznetsova has competed in powerlifting, bodybuilding, and arm lift. Her statistics show she has 18 inch biceps and a 50 inch chest. Her legs are 29 inches. Nataliya weight can range from 195 lbs to 225 lbs. This would make her the biggest woman on Anuj Tyagi’s list. Her lifting records include 407 lbs bench press, 682 lbs squat, and 529 lbs deadlift. Although she focuses on weightlifting, Nataliya could excel in bodybuilding. She won her pro card a few years ago, but does not make many contest appearances. With her level of strength she could bench press Ms. Olympia champions.

The Honorable Mentions

A true women’s bodybuilding fan remembers some ladies who size was incredible. Bev Francis, Paula Suzuki, Tina Lockwood, and Lesa Lewis were not mentioned on this list. Bev Francis was at one time considered “too muscular,” but her physique is now the standard for open class women’s bodybuilding. Bev Francis when competing was 160 lbs. Although she never won Ms. Olympia her physique is the equivalent of Iris Kyle’s. Paula Suzuki was only 132 lbs, yet her strength was immense. Paula could bench press 357.2 lbs, squat 281.1 lbs, and deadlift 462.9 lbs. Like Bev Francis, Paula Suzuki was gifted in powerlifting. Tina Lockwood was a fan favorite noted for her size. Specific statistics were hard to come by. Based on information from Women’s Physique World Tina was 180 lbs. Her biceps were 17 inches and she had 27 inch thighs. Tina’s calves were 18 1/2 inches. Lesa Lewis was much bigger with a competition weight of 193 lbs. The list would need to be expanded beyond five athletes. There were many large women that have been on stage.

The Female Mass Monsters

Maria Wattel according to the Guinness Book of World Records is the tallest female bodybuilder in the world. She is 5 ft and 11 inches tall. Certainly, she towers over many men. Maria weighs 209 lbs and has 16 inch biceps. Rene Toney is noted for having the largest biceps of any woman in the world. Her arms were measured in 2006 at the Arnold Expo. Renne had 20 inch biceps according to that measurement at the time. Renne’s weight was a total of 214 lbs. The term mass monster is used for an athlete who develops an amazing amount muscle size. Female mass monsters do not get the same amount of recognition or praise. Considering bodybuilding is harder for women, it makes more admirable. Betty Pariso was 169.5 lbs when competing. What was astounding was her long competition history. From 1992 to 2010 she appeared in multiple contests. Betty was the first female bodybuilder over the age of 50 to win an IFBB professional competition in 2009. At age 54, Betty still had a physique that rivaled younger competitors. Colette Guimond did not compete in as many contests, but when she did her physiques was noticeable. Her contest weight was 150 lbs with a 175 lbs off season. The list should have included more athletes. Making such a list is hard with women who are talented and skilled at the sport.

  1. It is funny how something starts out as shocking &/or impossible, but in time becomes a regular standard. I remember when Bev Francis appeared on the scene around the mid 1980s there were many who said she had an unfair cheating advantage of taking too much steroids. Or even worse, with her just plain face & her not being busty it was said that she was really a HE posing as a girl.
Many seemed to forget about a thing called genetics. That, plus her dedicated workouts brought her to that level where others just had to stare. And some just wrongly accused her.

Jump to the present, where now you can actually find a few “Bev’s” around. Although she’s not a novelty anymore she is however still an impressive example of something that many women, & even some of us guys would like to attain.
