Andrea Martinez Becomes Mexico’s First College Football Kicker

American football is becoming popular in other countries. Mexico is now getting interested in the sport. Mexican women are taking part in the sport. Andrea Martinez has become the first woman to play college football in Mexico. Martinez is a law student who attends the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Oddly enough, she thought there were going to be more women or at least a women’s team. Certain universities might not have a women’s division. That leaves women either trying out for the men’s team or finding another sport. Soccer was her favorite sport, but attempts to play professionally were halted. Instead Andrea tried football and tried out to be a place-kicker. What she revealed to the press was that she wanted to try something new. Andrea Martinez never watched the NFL. Most of her knowledge of the sport was gained from her brother who is a fan. Women are not only competing in professional ranks, but in various schools. Colleges and universities are seeing more women taking part in sports. American football is gaining popularity, but soccer will continue to be the favorite sport of Mexico.
